CORNWALL ONTARIO, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 7, 1937
United Counties Oldest Resident, Angus Lalonde, 101, Dies Tuesday
Esteemed Resident of Cornwall Suffered Paralytic Stroke Saturday; Active and Alert Up To The Time of Last Illness

Reputed to be the oldest resident of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry counties, Angus Lalonde, 806 York street, died at Hotel Dieu Hospital yesterday morning. He was 101 years of age.
Despite the fact he was past the century mark, Mr. Lalonde was active and alert up to last Saturday, when he suffered a paralytic stroke. He was taken to Hotel Dieu, but became gradually weaker until his death at 11 a.m. yesterday. Less than a month ago, Mr. Lalonde had returned from Toronto, where he had spent the winter with one of his sons, Joseph. He had full possession of all his faculties, barring impaired hearing, and took a keen and intelligent interest in the events of the day. During his visit in Toronto, and after his return to Cornwall, he took frequent walks with members of his family, and thoroughly enjoyed life.
Angus Lalonde was born in historic parish of St. Raphaels, Glengarry county, a son of Philip Lalonde. He spent the early part of his life there and later the family resided at Williamstown and Summerstown before coming to Cornwall 38 years ago. After taking up residence here, he was employed for some time at Mack’s flour and feed mill, but had been retired from active work for 20 years.
His wife died here in October, 1918. Left to mourn are four sons-  Frank P. Lalonde, proprietor of the Frank P. Lalonde Limited, Montreal and Toronto, manufacturers of modern electrically operated floor machines; Joseph Lalonde, Toronto representative of the firm; James Lalonde and Alfred Lalonde, of Cornwall.
The funeral will be held from the residence of his son, Alfred lalonde, 530 Amelia street, on Thursday morning, at 9.45 o’clock, to Nativity Church and St. Columban’s vault.
